We thank you all for your continued confidence in Cherry Hill Coolstores and we wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and New Year. Best wishes from all of us at Cherry Hill Coolstores, Tasmanian Seed Potatoes, and JACS Engineering and Maintenance.

SEASON REPORT

The planting of mini tubers are on track, despite the difficult season had by all. Exports to the mainland are triple for 2022 in comparison to last year. A great result for TSP and McCain.

Total seed count for this season was 13,000 tonnes and we’ve dispatched almost 10,000 tonnes (at the time of printing) and have a few thousand tonne still to go. Due to the wet weather, we’re all a bit behind where we would normally be, for this time of the year.

During 2022 we washed 13,000 tonnes of carrots. To continue expanding our capabilities, we are adding three full-time forklift drivers to the team, ready for the coming season.

Office Renovations

Our office renovations are officially in progress. Next time you arrive at reception, you’ll see what we mean! Planned in this expansion is a meeting room, a board room, and more office space for our growing team and visitors to Cherry Hill Coolstores.

We’re aiming to finish by mid-March 2023, just in time for the start of the season.

Soft rot update

We’re so pleased and proud to tell you how well seed has come out of our coolstores, given the especially tough conditions this season – we have minimal losses of seed breakdown. This is testament to Wayne and crew, and our congratulations on how well everyone has managed the seed storage this year!

“We have minimal losses of seed breakdown.”

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

With the seed cutting almost finished for the year, it’s time for Cherry Hill to commence their maintenance program on all their equipment – and in fact, they’re 10% of the way through already.

Some of the maintenance includes the stripping of machinery, changing bearings, chains, repair of shafts and drive chains, and all new rubber wear.

It’s a time consuming and expensive exercise, but it provides staff at Cherry Hill Coolstores with a trouble-free season for 2023.

“It’s quality at every corner for Cherry Hill Coolstores.”

TASMANIAN SEED POTATOES

Despite a difficult season, we are on track and halfway through seed planting.
The seed planted so far, has gone in really nicely. Growers are doing a good job of ground preparation and waiting until moisture levels are ideal before planting.

The mini tubers should start arriving next week and planting begins in the second week of December. McCain have increased the number of mini tubers this year sent to Tasmania, and we expect the volume of seed we produce for the mainland to continue to increase into the future – last year we sent 600 tonnes and this year we’ve sent 1,800 tonnes over.

JACS ENGINEERING

Recent and ongoing projects extend far and wide throughout Tassie for JACS.

This includes a 2-year project making components for the Bridgewater Bridge, Hydro Tasmania, and a residential project on Bruny Island, plus more.

Our team has increased to 15 staff now, plus Justin, and our latest equipment includes a new 4 tonne lathe.

INTRODUCING: WILL FREE

Will is known to be a very talented operator, and to prove this – he has many mates – all needing favours.

A local boy, Will and his three siblings spent a lot of time at their Pop’s farm in Forth and he understands the importance of farming machinery kept running smoothly.

Will has worked for JACS since March this year as a Machinery and Fitting Supervisor, and a typical day can include anything from repair and maintenance of farming equipment, trucks, to building components for new projects.

Will spent the past 14 years working for another local engineering firm, including his apprenticeship with them.

In his spare time he enjoys running, fitness, fishing and camping … and of course helping his many mates with their projects.
